There are two visa categories that you can use to start your business, Rentista or Inversionista. Foreigners with residency under the Rentista category can start their own business or be self-employed, but cannot work as an employee. The Inversionista category allows you to start a business as a result of your investment.

No companies in Costa Rica are charged any corporate taxes on income earned outside the country because it is a territorial tax nation. Any entity that is covered under the Free Zone Tax Law may enjoy some tax benefits that cover a wealth of their activities. 

Some banks in Costa Rica offer the option of opening offshore accounts and the regulations depend on the bank.
